According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Russia has started up a “massive new strike” against Ukraine’s energy grid.

He went on to say that the attacks were “very widespread,” affecting areas in Ukraine’s west, center, south, and east.

Mr Zelensky stated in an evening address that power had been restored in numerous areas in which it had been cut off.

Officials had earlier stated that nearly 1.5 million families had been left without power.

Mr Zelensky added in his video that so many Russian missiles as well as drones were being shot down, and that such strikes would not halt a Ukrainian military progression.

“Sure course, we lack the technical capability to shoot down all Russian missiles as well as attack drones.

I’m confident that we’ll get there gradually with the assistance of our partners “In a video, Ukraine’s president stated.

Since Monday last week, nearly a third of Ukraine’s powerplants and other energy-generating infrastructure have supposedly been torn down in a wave of air strikes.

The latest attacks have targeted the Cherkasy region, south-east of Kyiv, as well as the city of Khmelnytskyi, far west.

There were also reports of air strikes and power outages from Odesa in the south to Rivne as well as Lutsk in the north-west.

According to Ukrenergo, the national electricity operator, the bombardments may have caused more damage than the intense bombings earlier this month.

Mr Zelensky stated that 36 rockets were launched on Saturday, with the majority of them being shot down.

Serhiy Kiral, deputy mayor of the western city of Lviv, stated to the BBC on Saturday that Russia’s tactic was to damage vital infrastructure before winter as well as spread the war beyond the front lines. “The more major accomplishments the Ukrainian armed forces have at the front, the worse it will be for people on the home front because Russia will do everything it can to target civilians and essential infrastructure,” he stated in an interview with Newshour.
