According to reports, 50 people Have been killed in an air raid on Kachin rebels in Myanmar.

According to reports, an airstrike targeting one of Myanmar’s largest ethnic insurgent groups killed a minimum of 50 people and injured approximately 100 more.

Colonel Naw Bu, spokesman for the Kachin Independence Army, provided the death toll to the BBC (KIA).

Witnesses in Kachin State, northern Myanmar, say 3 bombs were dropped on a KIA concert in Kansi village.

According to villagers, there was no warning well before raid.

The Kansi concert was to commemorate the 62nd anniversary of the rebel army’s initiative for autonomy.

Three massive explosions were reported by witnesses on Sunday around 20:30 (14:00 GMT). They tore apart the cluster of buildings at the base, killing many individuals in the crowd.

Four popular Kachin performers are believed to be among those killed.

According to witness statements, the military prevented medics from transporting the wounded to the nearby town of Hpakant, where there is a hospital.

This region of Kachin State has been hotly contested for many years by the military as well as Kachin insurgents due to its jade mines, which are estimated to be worth $30 billion (£27 billion) per year.

There was frequent fighting there both before and after the military coup that deposed the civil government led by Aung San Suu Kyi last year.

This attack could be retaliation or a warning from the military for the Kachin insurgents’ support for other militant groups in Myanmar created to oppose the coup.
