Biden to be given latest COVID-19 booster shot, promoting vaccine.

WASHINGTON – The U.S. President Joe Biden was set to receive his up to date COVID-19 booster shot on Tuesday as well as urged the public to do the same to ensure a healthy holiday season.

Biden was scheduled to appear at the White House with the doctors leading the government’s efforts to combat the spread of the coronavirus.

They would be joined by executives from many major drug store chains, who are redoubling their efforts to help people get a dose of COVID-19 vaccine, which has been tweaked to target the BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants of omicron, that are the most prevalent strains in the United States.

According to the White House, over 20 million people have already received the up to date COVID-19 booster, including nearly one in every five older adults.

Biden is likely to call on business, educational, as well as civic leaders to do more to motivate their communities to get the free up to date vaccines.

According to Dr. Ashish Jha, head of the White House response to COVID-19, 3 respiratory viruses are currently circulating in the United States: the flu, COVID-19, and RSV, or respiratory syncytial virus.

Jha stated on several morning television shows that the combined effect of a flu shot and an updated COVID booster will now help people avert serious illness as well as stay out of the hospital as they prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving or other holidays with family and friends.

RSV has already been affecting children, but there is no treatment available, though companies are trying to develop one, he said.

“So if everyone went out and got their immunisations, we could really get through all of this without too much trouble,” Jha said on “CBS Mornings” on Tuesday.

“When you’re relying on your old vaccine from nine months ago or an infection from a year ago, that’s probably not going to be good enough,” Jha said on NBC’s “Today” show. “That’s one of the reasons we’re encouraging all Americans particularly older Americans, the seniors to get the new and updated COVID vaccine, because I do believe it’s going to make a really big difference.”

Biden had to wait out a few months to get his up to date COVID booster because he was infected and then reinfected with COVID-19 during the summer.
