The publisher of the ‘1619 Project’ has launched a series of readalongs.

Authors Matthew Desmond, Michelle Alexander, as well as Leslie Alexander will take part in a set of readalongs from the book edition of “The 1619 Project,” the New York Times Pulitzer Prize-winning fact sheet that has not only been widely acclaimed, debated, but also censored.

“The 1619 Project Read Along: A Classroom Without Walls” will be a mix of in-person and/or simulated gatherings that will kick off Tuesday night with an event at the Greene Space in downtown Manhattan and run through the fall and early next year.

The readings & subsequent discussions will center on six chapters from the book: Democracy, Capitalism, Fear, Race, Justice, as well as Music. Contributors include Desmond and the two Alexander sisters whose creator, Nikole Hannah-Jones, will partake in events regarding Democracy, Justice and Music.

The six featured chapters are available for free reading at 1619books.com.

“The objective is to provide people the time, resources, as well as community to intensify their comprehension of the book, especially in areas where they may be unable to access to it, for financial or legislative reasons,” said the book’s publisher, One World, a Penguin Random House imprint, in a statement released Tuesday.
